Priority Notification Program
This program is open to anyone – either HIV-positive or HIV-negative – interested in participating in clinical trials performed at AIDS Research Alliance.
AIDS Research Alliance's Priority Notification Program (PNP) is designed to provide advance notification of new opportunities to enroll in HIV/AIDS clinical trials. By enrolling in the PNP you will receive at least 7 days advance notice of all new clinical trials (prior to public announcement) being conducted at ARA. YOU DO NOT NEED TO JOIN THE PNP IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN ARA'S CLINICAL TRIALS. However, many of the HIV/AIDS clinical drug trials can fill-up quickly, the PNP ensures that you are given the first opportunity to participate in clinical trials of promising new treatments.
The decision to participate in a clinical trial is a very personal one. For this reason, it should be taken seriously. Click here for more information about participating in clinical drug trials, including potential risks and benefits. Click here for a list of our current clinical trials.
Some of the reasons that you may want to participate in a clinical trial include:
• Early access to potentially promising new experimental treatments
• Free physical examinations
• Free laboratory tests (including T-cell panels and viral load tests)
It will never cost you money to participate in a clinical trial and we NEVER bill your insurance company. In fact, you do not need to have any sort of insurance to participate in any of our clinical trials.
To join the Priority Notification Program, just click here to complete the form. Or, you can print the form and either mail or fax it back to AIDS Research Alliance. For your protection, all information that you give us will be entered into our CONFIDENTIAL records and maintained in a locked file. If you prefer, you can register using a pseudonym (a fake name) to protect your identity. All PNP mailings are sent in a confidential envelope, which displays only our street address.
When a new clinical trial is open to enrollment at ARA, each person in the PNP database is notified by mail (or e-mail) about the study. If you are interested in the study and feel that you may qualify, contact our Clinic at the telephone number provided. Our staff will ask you some brief questions over the telephone to assess whether you meet the study requirements for participation. If so, an appointment will be made for you to "screen" for the study, which will include coming to our Clinic to have blood and urine samples taken from you to determine if you meet the requirements of the study. However, before any procedures are performed, you will be required to carefully read a description of the study and procedures involved, including potential risks and benefits to participating in the study.
Screening appointments are made on a "first come, first serve" basis. If you qualify for participation in the study, you will be given the opportunity to enroll in the trial.
All candidates are offered the same chance to participate, regardless of where they receive medical care or whether or not they have health insurance. However, you are encouraged to register early, as there are usually more interested candidates than enrollment slots.
ARA can usually provide transportation to our facility if you live in the Southern California area and have difficulty getting to our Clinic.
Most studies are open to men and women unless otherwise indicated.
All PNP members will receive a free subscription to Searchlight, our quarterly newsletter.
