AIDS
ReSearch Alliance, Women and the HIV/AIDS Epidemic
HIV/AIDS
is one of the most urgent health issues facing women today.
Women are the fastest rising HIV infection group in the United
States and AIDS is the 5th leading cause of death of U.S.
women. Globally, women account for 40% of all AIDS cases.
AIDS ReSearch
Alliance acknowledges the urgent need for women to receive
vital information about HIV/AIDS and AIDS research. Over the
past several years, AIDS ReSearch Alliance has given free
informational presentations at several women's organizations,
including Women Alive, Women at Risk, APLA's Women's Program,
the Long Beach HIV/AIDS Women's Caucus, and Westside Women's
Health Center. AIDS ReSearch Alliance has increased the number
of women who participate in our clinical trials and we applaud
them for their time and efforts.
AIDS ReSearch
Alliance also is proud to have sponsored several women-centered
events, including the L.I.N.K.A.G.E.S. HIV Conference, the
Skills Building Pre-Conference to the National Conference
on HIV and Women, the Women at Risk House of Blues event,
and HIV University (organized by Women Alive).
AIDS ReSearch
Alliance directly collaborates with several local women's
organizations. An AIDS ReSearch Alliance staff member represents
us on the Women's Caucus on HIV/AIDS Los Angeles County and
on the Board of Directors of Women at Risk.
