Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the money go?
Funds raised are used locally for research and education programs at AIDS Research Alliance. Through research, we continue to search for better medications for people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as medical strategies to prevent the spread of the virus. Through professional education programs such as the Peer Research Education Program and the Community Advisory Board, AIDS Research Alliance is educating the community about treatment and prevention of the disease. All of these efforts support the fight against the AIDS epidemic and give hope to hundreds of thousands of Americans struggling with HIV/AIDS.
What is the cost of fundraising?
Eighty-three percent is used to fund AIDS research, and education programs. The remaining seventeen percent covers expenses.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Funds donated AIDS Research Alliance through the Revolutions: Cycling for Research program are tax deductible in that no goods or services were received in exchange for the donation. Please consult with your tax advisor regarding your tax deductions. AIDS Research Alliance is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The federal tax ID is 95-4264845.
Will I get a receipt for my contribution?
For any donor who has donated $10 or more, AIDS Research Alliance will mail a thank you letter. This letter can be considered a receipt for tax purposes. The IRS recognizes a cancelled check or credit card statement as proof of any donation under $250.
Will my employer match my contribution?
Many companies will match employees’ charitable contributions. Be sure to ask your company's Human Resources department to find out if your company has such a policy. Corporate Matching Gifts can dramatically increase the value of your donation.
How can I donate by mail?
To donate by mail, just send your donation to the friend/family member you’re supporting. You can provide your check or money order (made payable to AIDS Research Alliance), or credit card number as payment. Your friend/family member will make sure your donation is processed.
What happens to my donation if the person I’m sponsoring drops out of the training program?
Contributions are processed immediately upon receipt by AIDS Research Alliance. If injury or other unforeseen circumstances prevent the Revolution: Spin-A-Thon participant from completing the event, your donation will still be used to support the fight against AIDS. No refunds will be issued.
