OraQuick Assay

A study testing the effectiveness of a new 20-minute oral HIV-test.

Background

OraSure has previously developed an effective oral HIV test. Results currently require a one-to-two week turnaround.
Objective
To determine whether the new OraQuick oral assay is a reliable means of ascertaining HIV status. This assay would reduce the current HIV-test turnaround time to 20 minutes, helping to ensure that those tested are not lost to follow-up.

Study Design

Group 1: HIV-positive volunteers. Each volunteer will have an oral swab, finger prick blood test and standard blood draw taken.

Group 2: HIV-negative volunteers. Each volunteer will have an oral swab, finger prick blood test and standard blood draw taken.
