How often do CAB members meet?
CAB members will meet once a month.
Do I have to have experience participating in clinical trials?
No. If you have an interest in learning more about clinical trials, working with a diverse group of people interested in HIV/AIDS, have a willingness to learn about clinical trials and the desire to share your experiences and knowledge with others, then we invite you to submit an application to participate on our Community Advisory Board.
How much of a time commitment is required? CAB membership is on a volunteer basis, however we ask for a commitment of at least 6 months. On occasion, conference calls and communication via Internet will be necessary. A minimal amount of required reading (protocols and other training materials) will be necessary. The goal is to provide CAB members with all the support needed in order to be effective members. Time commitments may vary depending upon your level of participation and interest.
Where are meetings held?
Meetings are held the last Thursday of every other month at ARA in West Hollywood. Generally we meet from 6 to 7:30 pm. With advance notice in certain circumstances, we can accommodate members who cannot be present physically for a meeting to “attend” via conference call.
Can I participate if I am currently enrolled in a clinical trial at ARA?
Due to strict regulatory stipulations, if you are a patent in a current study you CANNOT participate in the CAB at this time. However, you can help ARA work with the community in other ways. You can volunteer your time doing outreach or assisting with administrative support in the office.
Do I have to buy anything, or will there be cost involved in participating in the CAB? No. All materials will be provided at no cost to members. On occasion you may be asked to attend community events and trainings as a CAB member. If there are costs involved for attending such events, ARA will cover any fees.
How can I get a CAB application?
[CAB APPLICATION] You can go on our website and fill out the online application or you can call the office and have it mailed to you. Once we receive your application you will be notified of the next CAB meeting and provided with materials about your participation.
